Mikey Burton is a graphic designer and illustrator from the Midwest. He graduated from Kent State University with a BS/MA in Visual Communication Design, and started the company Little Jacket with two friends when he was still in grad school.

Mikey states that he works hard, designs fearlessly, and loves what he does. I personally love his thesis project which was an integrated branding campaign directed toward junior high school students. Mikey re-designed the book covers for some of the classic novels that students read in school like To Kill a Mockingbird and Animal Farm. You can see more of his work here.

These completely capture the stories in each book and represent them fantastically, and also more interestingly, in a new way. I think Mikey definitely hit his mark here at targeting junior high schoolers with the visual aesthetic of the covers, the colors, and illustration style.

The illustrations are dark and edgy, making them curious and giving them a twist. He made the books seem more ‘fun’ and interesting to pick up and read than the original classic plain covers. What do you think of these covers, do you love them as much as I do?
